The case against Meta Keywords for SEO purposes

I would like to raise the issue that globally, every web site should consider removing the "keywords" meta tag from their HTML if they are still using them. 

Here are some supporting arguments:

1. Google officially announced that it's not using keywords metatag: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com.tr/2009/09/google-does-not-use-keywords-meta-tag.html
2. "Keywords" is not on the list of Google's list of supported metatags, meaning that it's not useful for SEO purposes: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/79812?hl=en
3. One of the most trusted SEO blog, Search Engine Land advises to remove keywords meta tag: http://searchengineland.com/the-meta-keywords-tag-lives-at-bing-why-only-spammers-should-use-it-96874
